The feedback for ‘NO’ was far more varied than for the preceding two films, with much more negativity due to the educational nature of the film:

‘Educational and interesting, but not overly entertaining’; ‘A brave choice of film, but it could hardly be classed as entertainment.’

Still many found the film to be interesting, insightful and fascinating:

‘Funnier than I expected’; ‘Very factual’; ‘progressed into a great film’; ‘Strong film’; ‘Very interesting - especially the juxtaposition of advertising and political mores’; ‘Slow to get into but once I had I found it made quite an impression’; ‘Great insight into political events and culture.’

There was high praise for the cinematography, notably the near seamless integration of archive video footage:

‘Wonderfully photographed, the style completely complemented the subject matter, invoking/evoking the emotion of a nation going through change’; ‘The interweaving of new and old, particularly the extracts showing Pinochet himself, added to the interest of seeing a dictator fall.’

Several people found the volume of information, length of the picture, and ‘heaviness’ of the subject matter difficult to follow and slightly boring, especially in the beginning:

‘Too much of the same thing’; ‘Fragmented’; ‘A bit to ‘heavy’ for me. Difficult to follow - quite hard work - if at home I’d have changed the channel!’; ‘A little too much and too long to hold my attention’; ‘A bit slow’; ‘A bit shapeless and a trifle too long.’

Some were disappointed and surprised by their sense of emotional detachment from the key characters:

‘I enjoyed ‘No’ but was not as engaged with the characters as I hoped/expected’; ‘Loved it stylistically but felt a detachment from the characters…Intentional?’; ‘I would have liked a little more about the main character’s private life.’

Other comments focused on the political climate which the film tried to capture and some audience members showed their admiration of those who stood against the violent Pinochet regime:

‘Yet another film that makes one appreciate the county we live in and all the rights and freedoms we take for granted. Very courageous Chileans who stood up against the Pinochet regime.’
